I think I need a new CPU
The voltage reg gets hot. CPU gets warm. The bottom of the board gets warm/hot. At pins 1, 3, 13, 14 I get the 3 volts, all others are 0 with no CPU. I can get the LED to work for the tach signal, but then it stops after about 5-10 seconds. Now on the board I to get 12v, 3v, but not 5v. With the CPU...

Re: Jumpers for Tach
Thanks, that sounds like a good idea.
Now, how do I put new firmware on the MS board?

Jumpers for Tach
I have a JimStim V1.5 with a V2.0.3 chip. I want to check for a tach signal on my MS3X v3.0 On the JimStim I have the DIPs set at 3, 5, 6, 7 to On position for a Gen 3 Hemi using a 36-2+2 and hall sensor. I have been fighting with this for a while and want to make sure I am not missing anything. The...
Re: No RPM
thanks.
Actually I think that it is a hall sensor. But I tried both ways and still no RPM.
I did post this up at MSextra, we will see what replies I get.

Re: No RPM
I tested the Jimstin board again and all is good. Had the jumper set on 5v pull up for primary tach = No tach movement in TunerStudio. Then I set the jumper for a 12v pull up for primary tach = No tach movement in Tunerstudio. DIP switches set to 36-1+1 (#3 and #5 ON). The MS3 board has an internal ...
Re: No RPM
I don't know if I need 12v pull up or 5v pull up. I was looking in the manual but couldn't find it. The pots R52 and R56 have been set according to the install for a Gen 3 Hemi which is R56-fully CCW and R52-3 turns CW from fully CCW. Actually looking over my notes the crank sensor will be using a 5...
No RPM
MS3X V3.0, Gen 3 Hemi On the JimStim I set the DIP for a 36-1+1. That is DIP 3 and 5 ON. Jumper installed on the top 2 Primary Tach pins for a VR signal. In TunerStudio while looking at the Tach gauge, and turning the either of the two RPM pots on the Jimstim, no RPM is shown on the gauge. I also tr...

Can't find the dip settings for the tach signal for the Jimstim.

Thanks for all your help Jean.
It is really appreciated.
Hopefully in the next week or so I can start to build my MS3X.

Re: Problems with JimStim, Newbie
OK Jean, I replaced the Q2 transistor. I now get the LED to flash as I turn the RPM Fine potentiometer for the 2nd Trigger mode. It does not flash as nice as the primary tach tough, not sure if that is a problem or not. When testing the primary tach signal the OFF time of the LED is longer and gives...

Jean, can you look at the links and let me know which transistor will work?

Re: Problems with JimStim, Newbie
Thanks Jean.
I repositioned the jumpers as you explained and the LED did flash with a lower brightness as you said.
Now to find 2N3904FS-ND transistor.....

Re: Problems with JimStim, Newbie
OK! I replaced the burnt out LEDs and they all light up, including the multi-color IAC1-2. Thanks for the help on that. Desoldering is a real pain. Checking the Tach signal and it is good as well. BUT, when I check the 2nd Trigger, no lights come on. Dip switch #3 to ON, all the rest on OFF. Jumper ...

Re: Problems with JimStim, Newbie
Thanks for your help so far, much appreciated. I do believe that I may have burnt some of the LEDs. I checked for continuity from the appropriate jumper header pins from the DB37 side (short lead) of the LED and all is good. I then checked from the 5v header pin to the chip side (long lead) of the L...
