P&H board v1.1B with MS3+MS3X

Post by f_devocht » Sat Feb 02, 2013 1:10 pm

Can I use the MS3X injectors outputs to drive the P&H board?
If not, how would I connect it?
Also, do I need R10-R13?

Edited to answer my question:

Am I correct that I do need to do this? http://forum.jbperf.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=493
Iow, I build the extra transistor circuit (proto area has room enough).
As far as wiring goes, I take it the circuit sits between the MS3X outputs and the P&H board.
The output of the P&H board then goes to the low-z injectors.
I do not need R10-R13.
I may not connect the 4 injector grounds to the V3 board but need to run them to a seperate engine ground instead?

If this is correct, it might be a good idea to add this to the P&H page as this was very unclear for me for a while.

You can't use them directly because the injector outputs are grounding signals and the P&H board requires a 0-5V signal. You need an inverter circuit for each input to transform the signal correctly. And R10-13 are there to make sure that you don't have a floating input and keep the injectors closed. But if you add an inverter, you may not need it if you never have a floating input.

One example of an inverter circuit you could use is this:

If you are able to put the p&h board inside your MS3 case, the easiest solution might be to actually bypass the MS3X. Connect the p&h board to the J1 header on the MS3 card. This way you don't need to use the inverter circuit. If you put the p&h board outside the MS3 case then you want to use the inverter circuit. In any case, it's better to use dedicated grounds for the p&h board.

ah, good. There's plenty room above the MS3 card so yes, I have it inside the case.
I'll disconnect the 4 injectors pins on J1 and reroute them to the P&H board instead of to the MS3X.
thx for the help Jean.

Pretty crowded, but it all fits: MS3, MX3X, Knock board, Realtime clock, P&H board, PnP miata connector, internal bluetooth module and ... lots of wiring :)

That's quite an impressive setup!

But there is still plenty of space under the V3.0 board :) You could install a dual VR board and a TinyIOx board there.

Jean, If I use your P&H board with a MS3 Pro, do I need the inverter circuit or can tap into the inputs of the power transistors (VND5N07) and use that as inputs for your board?
The pads on those transistors are big enough for me to solder onto.

Using the inputs of the VND5N07 on the MS3Pro would work. There would be no need for an inverter then.

Great, I'll give it a try next week and give feedback.
