Engine bay mounting

Post by Art Vandelay » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:29 am

I'm wondering if the V2.x boards are suitable to be mounted near the engine. I may have missed it but I didn't see anything about it on the board description page.

The components are rated for automotive temperature but there are 2 issues. First is that the case is not sealed so that could be a serious problem. Second is that the drivers themselves do generate a significant amount of heat.

So that heat has to be dissipated which is done through the case but if the air around the case is hot, there might not be enough heat dissipation and the board and components may overheat. You could provide a large external heat sink such as a metal plate on which you mount the case (with good thermal contact between the 2) but you would still need to monitor that after installation to make sure this is sufficient.
