Need help dual board 2.0 (*SOLVED*)

Postby juansh2385 » Tue Jan 03, 2012 5:58 pm

Hi Jean happy new Year.

I finally got the time to work on a mr2 proyect that have been waiting for a long time. Any way I am using your boar 2.0 for a 4/1 dizzy of the toyota. Your board is installed in a ms2 V3 board. Non of the components of the tach select are installed is quite empty as I use your 4 ch board for sequential fuel and the dual board for the tach signals.

The problem that I am having is that the car starts but I am having sync 11 I do not loose sync but in the diagnostic tab I can see a really noisy cam signal. the NE signal looks good I am only having trouble with the cam.

If I use the jimstim everything looks fine. The only strange thing that i notice in the jimstim is that if I left the 2vr jumper unplugged on purpose the ms still sync because noise triggers the missing cam signal... (my guess is that this is happening in the car too).

what kind of fueling algorithm is using ms when sync 11 appears in tunners studio gauge?
I am using fuel only for now is it safe to attempt to control spark with the current sync problem?
Looking for information I read that a 51k pulldown helps in the diypnp. How can I try this in my setup?
what is a shunt resistor i do not understand the terminology I know pull up is a resistor installed to 5 or 12 volts and pulldown is a resistor installed to ground how do I try a shunt resistor (i read here that it might help for low tooth wheels)

Any help would be appreciated.
Juan

A shunt resistor is a resistor that goes between the VR+ and the VR-.

How is your cam signal connected to the board? Do you have a VR+ and a VR- going to the board? If not what is connected?

And trying to control spark with sync errors is not a good idea. It will not give anything useful and will not help. You need to resolve your sync issue first.

I forgot to mention The CAS have 3 vr sensor the NE and G1 share the same vr- and are grounded to the block but the cam vr that have a single tooth is not grounded to the block I am using both vr+ and vr- only to your board and sharing with the stock ecu only the NE singal

ok clarifying my last post from the cam vr sensor I am using VR+ and VR- Directly to your board

For the NE signal (4 tooth) I am using vr+ to your board and vr- to ground because the cas grounds that vr- so I ground it too.

Can you post a composite log?

I am going to that a composite log right now and post it so I can give you more info.

Thanks for the help

You're using the toothed wheel mode but have you tried the CAS 4/1 mode? I don't think this is the issue but I'd like to see the difference. Also can you post a composite log of what you get on the stim?

So i did try 4/1 (with the apropriate return angle wich is different from thoot #1) the result is that the code did not flag reason 11 in the gauge any more but the composite logs reflects that I still have problems with the cam signal.

I do not know if you remember that I notice a time a strange behavior if I left the 2 vr signal in the stim floating for some reason it still detects a cam signal but the signals follows a strange pattern.

attached some logs of this in tooth wheel mode with the same setting that gave me a nice signal in the stim but left floating the vr2 this time

Thanks a lot

How is you VR1 connected? Do you have VR1+ and VR1-? And what do you do on the stim? Where is your board connected? Having a crosstalk like this is not normal.

But you also have a lot of noise on VR2. If you look at the logs from the car, you can see all the yellow dots (not just the transitions) are where there were some false trigger.

I don't know how your wiring is done but if it's not shielded, I would change that. You could also try putting a 1K resistor between VR+ and VR- (shunt resistor).

For the vr2 I am using a shield wire already Vr+ and Vr- directly to your board and the shield grounded only to the ms.

For the VR1 in is shielded to vr+ and vr- are in separate pins in the db37 also, the only difference in the vr1 wiring in the car is that my cas grounds vr1- to the chassis so the cable that goes from db37pin tho vr1- in your board goes to ground. This is only in the car,

in the stim vr1+ ,vr1- vr2+ and vr2 are all conected to a designated pin in db37 and when taking the logs I follow the instruction left vr1- and vr2- floating and installed the 12v pull up.

in the log that the cross talk was notice i left vr2+ and vr2- floating.

I am going to try right now the shunt resistor and post results.

thanks for taking your time and walking me trough this

Jean :D :D the shunt resistor worked like magic I can now see a very nice pattern at idle with 1k shunt but if I free rev and take a log there still some false triggering.

Do you think that a smaller shunt resistor might help with that? (edited)
or a 10k resistor inline in the vr+?

An inline resistor will not do much if anything. You could try both a lower and a higher shunt value such as a 510R and a 2.2k.

well jean I celebrated to early but this has improve a lot. How low can i go with the shunt resistor? I dont want to go to low right now is almost perfect as soon as rpm go up no problem can be detected from the logs I have intermittent reason 11 only at idle (1100 or less). I did notice 1k was good 470 was almost perfect so how low in resistance can I go?

Thanks a lot

I think that if you go lower, it will be worse at low RPM. Have you tried something between 470 and 1K?
