Dual VR board in MS3X for Traction Control

Postby glowryder » Mon Dec 07, 2015 12:57 am

Hello, I just got my Dual VR 2.1 Internal board

Just trying to plan things out, I think Im going to stock it in the proto area and grab my +5v and Gnd from there.

No my goal is to run traction control. Currently I am using a hall sensor for my VSS. I want to watch my rear wheels, Via the OE ABS wheel and sensor. I *think* the OE sensor is a VR sensor.

Once the board is in, I *think* the wire will hook up as follows:

Proto Pwr/gnd
Out 1 to JS4
VR1+ to Spare 1 on Main MS3 harness then wire this to the ABS sensor.
VR1- to Spare 2 on Main MS3 harness then wire this to the ABS sensor.

Then in TS set VSS2 to digital>JS4 and set up from there?

Thanks for the help!!!

Yes that looks correct as long as JS4 and the spare pins are currently free. You may need to use shielded wiring if you get noise on the input.

To check if this is a VR sensor, measure the resistance. It should be around 300 to 1000 Ohms. And it is very likely to be as this is common for ABS sensors.

Great!

As for the shiled wire, would it be sufficent to run it from the MS3 main to the sensor? Didnt know if I needed to repin the connector with the shield wire, vis soldering it onto the existing SPR1/2 wires.

thanks again for quick reply, support and fast shipping!

Ideally, you want the whole length shielded but that depends on the noise source and level. And you may not even need it.

So I started in on the install, and realized my Mapdaddy baro out is on JS5. JS4 is clear, but Im not sure what else is a suitable output I can use. Any ideas?

Wasn't your plan to use JS4 from the start?

At any rate, the VR board puts out a digital (pulse) signal, not analog, so there are a LOT of pin options. Open your .msq in Tuner Studio, then go to [Advanced Engine] [Speed and Gear Sensors] [Vehicle Speed Sensor 1], then open the drop-down window [Digital Input]. There are 13 local options, before you get into the CAN selections ...
