Knock Input

Postby shaodome » Wed Mar 10, 2010 2:25 pm

Hi Jean,

I am looking at purchasing the IO Board based on a link i just got from Unaclocker. Very cool looking stuff and I'm just starting to wrap my head around it. I've got the io.ini setup in my tuner studio project and get the IO dropdown menu. What I am looking to do is bring the knock sensor input which is just a pulse with a max of 5v from Boris' knocksense product. I am using a 2JZGTE inline 6cyl engine and currently in MS2Extra in order to use all 6 ignition outputs, Ken and James ate up JS4 and JS5 for sparkoutputs E & F respectively.

How do I go about doing this? If its already explained elsewhere, just point me in that direction and I'll do my own research until I'm stuck again.

Thanks!

At this time, the MS2/Extra code doesn't support this but it is easy to implement and it makes sense to do it. It would simply use one of the digital input of the I/O extender and you would connect the knocksense to this input and configure the MS to use the remote CAN input (similar to table switching which also uses digital inputs).

One thing that would need to be checked is what the duration of the knock signal is on the knocksense. The CAN polling is done every 10ms so it has to be at least that long to make sure it registers. However, to be able to log it with a digital signal on MS, it also has to be longer than that so it is more than likely that the signal duration is long enough.

So I will likely implement this for the next MS2/Extra release that should be available in about 1 week. I should also implement the flex fuel sensor support at the same time (this is for Unaclocker :) ).

Let me know if you have more questions.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for the next update. Before ordering the IO board want to play with the software and get the basic questions outta the way before tinkering.

I build a lot of boards for local racers in the South East US and this might be something I might consider adding as part of the package depending on what it can do....really nice work!

That makes sense. The changes I mentioned will not change anything on the I/O Extender side but simply add options to the MS2/Extra with respect to the inputs for the aforementioned features. The knock sensor input will be a digital input that will require CAN polling to be set for the digital ports and flex fuel will be a PWM input that will require CAN polling to be enabled for the PWM inputs.

And you may ask Unaclocker about his experience with the extender. He has a blog entry about it and has used the different I/O types for different functions. And of course, I'll gladly answer any question you may have.

Good to hear about the FFV getting merged in soon. :)
Here's my post about the IO-Extender's initial install. I haven't gone back and added the bit about the FCS (fuel composition sensor), but it's essentially identical to the VSS input I added.. And I need to cover my realtime gas mileage gauge I have now. That thing is sooo nice to have..
